02/11/04 - Uniwood® Launches Updated Product Categories STATESVILLE (N.C.), Feb. 11 – Uniwood® introduced Gator-Ply, the original specialty engineered man-made wood-fiber veneer, to the furniture market more than 30 years ago. Since then craftsmen of residential and office furniture and retail-store display fixtures have come to rely upon Uniwood’s high-quality synthetic veneer products – used as backers, facers and crossband – to lower manufacturing costs, simplify the manufacturing process and enhance furniture and fixture quality. Uniwood’s family of synthetic veneers are used by leading manufacturers of: · Residential furniture – including dining room and occasional tables, dressers and cabinets. · Office furniture – including desks, credenzas, cabinets and shelving units. · Store fixtures – including retail-store display fixtures, slot walls and shelving. Gator-Ply backer is a low formaldehyde specialty engineered man-made wood-fiber veneer impregnated with a proprietary resin system. It delivers cleanly shaped edges when used as a balancing medium that helps prevent warping in both three-ply and five-ply panel construction. Gator-Ply backer is the lower-cost alternative to wood and HPL backers; there’s less waste with Gator-Ply backer because it’s available in stock sheets or cut to customer specifications. Its reliable supply also eliminates cost fluctuations associated with wood backers. Syn-Ply™ Crossband. Syn-Ply, the original specialty engineered synthetic crossband man-made wood-fiber veneer, is impregnated with a proprietary resin system that allows it to be used successfully in five-ply panel construction. Syn-Ply crossband is a better alternative to poplar crossband in both residential and office furniture applications. Not only is it more economical, it’s also more uniform with no lap lines. Syn-Ply is available in light colors so there’s no show-through even on light finishes. It’s omni-directional and may be laid up at the manufacturer’s discretion. Syn-Ply crossband helps to prevent telegraphing from lumber-rimmed cores. Luxcell® Backer/Facer. Luxcell backer/facer possesses all of the quality characteristics of Gator-Ply backer – plus it offers furniture manufacturers the option to paint or print it for unique retail-store display fixtures or individualized office and residential furniture pieces. Luxcell products can be used as a backing material and/or facer in both three-ply and five-ply panel construction. Luxcell backer/facer is available in stock sheets or custom-cut sizes.
