06/02/05 - Gator-Ply® Backer Now Available in Flexible Sheets The Uniwood® business of Alcan Composites USA has expanded its line of Gator-Ply® wood-fiber veneer with Gator-Ply Flexible synthetic backer. Gator-Ply is the original specialty engineered man-made wood-fiber veneer introduced by the Uniwood business more than 30 years ago. With the introduction of Gator-Ply Flexible, Gator-Ply now is available in both rigid and flexible sheets for use as a balancing medium in three-ply and five-ply panel construction. Gator-Ply Flexible backer is available for use as a balancing medium in three-ply and five-ply panel construction. “New Gator-Ply Flexible synthetic backer is designed to meet the unique handling needs of the smaller shop owner,” said Lynette Tullos, sales manager, Uniwood. “Gator-Ply Flexible can be processed with less breakage because this new product offers both improved tensile strength and internal bond over original Gator-Ply backer. It also offers excellent machinability and can be laminated on either side with no special preparation required. That saves precious man hours in the shop.” Gator-Ply Flexible backer can be used in both high-pressure and veneer backer applications. And, just like original Gator-Ply, Gator-Ply Flexible helps furniture manufacturers to cut costs as the lower-cost alternative to conventional wood and HPL backers. Gator-Ply Flexible backer is designed to meet the unique handling needs of the smaller shop owner. Gator-Ply Flexible is available in 49” by 97” and 61” by 97” stock sheet sizes in the dark brown color. Grain orientation is available upon request. Additional products available from Uniwood include Luxcell® backer/facer for painting and printing and Syn-Ply™crossband for five-ply panel construction.
